Microprocessor controlled WDG4

You may wonder why is that an ordinary railway engine is put up here. Well, this is not an ordinary engine but it is the first of its kind. The IR’s WDG4 was designed and developed by General Motors Corporation and the first beast was named as GT46MAC and it was directly imported by IR in 1997. This WDG4 equals 4500 horses and was mainly designed for freight action. This is the only diesel powered engine with 4500hp ever with the Indian Railways. The specialty of this beast is that the entire engine and gadgets are microprocessor controlled with auto cruising facility. Even the cooling fans on top of the engine are controlled and monitored electronically. It provides very high security and safety to the drivers and they don’t have to strain much during their journey. It is also provided with GPS system which enables the controller to locate the engine at any instance. The engine can be electronically mued with another engine in order to double up power. The best part is that the whole engine is compatible with wireless controlling feature that can be developed in future to run a man less freight rake.
